What do I need to bring when coming to Daley Reprieve?
All you will really need is clothing for the season and basic hygienic toiletries, such as a toothbrush and toothpaste, razor, body wash or soap and anything else you need to keep yourself clean. We provide bedsheets and a comforter and there is always food available; however, you may choose to bring extra food if you would like.
What do I need to know about being a new resident?
When you first come to the house, you will be placed on a 30-day restriction (or "blackout"), during which time you MUST attend a meeting every night. Upon arrival at the house, you will be giving a meeting sheet that needs to be filled out and signed by the chairperson of the meeting you attended. For the first 30 days of residency, you will only be able to leave the house with a senior house member. (Exceptions are made for job searching, extended rehab programs and visiting family - at the discretion of the House Manager and/or General Manager.)
Upon successful completion of the 30-day meeting sheet, you will be taken off restriction and allowed to come and go at any time. After the first 30 days, residents are expected to attend three 12-step meetings per week, IN ADDITION to our weekly house meetings, held Tuesday and Sunday evenings. All residents must sign in and out when leaving or returning to the house.
How long to I have to find a job?
All residents are expected to have full-time employment while living at the house. Generally, we find that most residents are able to find work within a couple of weeks, IF they are actively searching. Our policy is that we will allow someone to stay, so long as they are making a daily, concerted effort to find employment. Keep in mind that rent is due on a weekly basis, and back-rent will accumulate if it is not paid on the due date. That being said, we rarely see someone fail to find employment if they are seriously making an effort.
How many people live in the house?
It varies, but the house is able to accommodate up to 15 people. We have four rooms with 2 beds each, two rooms with 3 beds each and the manager's room. In addition, the house has a large living area, kitchen, garage with laundry and exercise equipment, back patio and backyard. We also have plenty of parking to accommodate residents who drive.
How is the house structured?
Our General Manager oversees house operations. In addition, we have a house manager and assistant manager who reside in the house and ensure rules are upheld and give random tests for drugs/alcohol to the other residents.
What happens if someone relapses on drugs/alcohol while living at the house?
If it is suspected that a resident is using drugs or alcohol, a test will be administered. If it is positive, we offer the opportunity to help the resident find treatment at a detox and rehab facility. Upon completion of treatment, we may allow a resident to return if they otherwise behaved well while previously living at the house. The decision is ultimately made by the General Manager. If, for any reason, the resident is not allowed to return, we will help them to find another recovery house in the area.
How long do I need to stay?
There is no particular time-limit on staying or moving out of the house, unless stipulated by a court. Daley Reprieve is structured as a 6-month program. After a resident has been at the house for a minimum of 6 months, we will provide a certificate of completion if requested.
Daley Reprieve operates three sober houses in addition to our recovery house. When a resident has completed their 6 month stay at the recovery house, they will be given an opportunity to move to one of our sober houses, provided a room is available.
What is the difference between a recovery house and a sober house?
As far as the Daley Reprieve houses, the main differences while living in a sober house are:
Sober house residents have their own bedroom
There are a maximum number of 6 residents at our sober houses
Residents must buy their own food while living in a sober house
There are no restrictions for coming and going at the sober house; residents have no curfew and do not need to sign in and out
Sober house residents may occasionally have a guest over
Drug and alcohol tests are randomly given to sober house residents; Sobriety is a still a requirement for residence at a sober house
